You will always have leads coming in.  Your sales & marketing teams will continually be working various accounts.

But you also need to be targeting key potentials — sometimes it is for a campaign, sometimes they meet certain profiles or they have trigger events.

With that in mind, we have developed a method for selecting key prospect targets.  Here’s what we did.  We took four data points from records in The Global 5000 and built a simple rating system based on these data points.

1) Revenue Growth – companies growing revenue are a good thing.  They’ll likely have money.  Companies not growing may have problems and likely won’t be spending as much externally on any number of products and services.

2) Revenue per Employee – with a higher revenue per employee, companies will likely have more dollars to spend

3) Socially advanced – using a ratio of # LinkedIn members to employees – the higher the percentage, the more attractive this company may be as a target for a variety of services

4) Training Spending – using survey data relating to corporate training spending. These levels of spending vary by industry, size and geography of locations.  Higher levels of spending generally indicate a company’s readiness to spend externally.

For each of these 4 metrics, we assigned a value from 5000 to 1 where 5000 was the highest ranked in the category and therefore got the biggest number of points

Then the aggregate values from all four of those metrics were added.  The 1000 with the greatest number of points are included in our selection here

These 1000 companies in total are good ones to focus on as you build your business and begin working accounts.
