With the benefit of history – having updated The Global 5000 companies since 2006 – we can now look at how different industries and countries have grown. This becomes an important component to business and sales plans where a companies assets might be focused on certain sectors or quotas are built on a country by country basis.
In the chart below, we have plotted 2 countries – Canada and Switzerland – against the overall Global 5000 database. There are 123 Canada based firms in The Global 5000 and 65 in Switzerland. We have used an index based on growth since 2006 to show how the companies in those respective companies have grown over time. Note how Switzerland dropped into negative territory during the recession of 2008 while Canada (largely on the strength of its natural resources base) was running strong above the overall group and now has settled back closer to the norm.
