With our latest update, here’s a snapshot of how the Global 5000 companies shake out by industry and country.
First is the database sliced by revenue for Global 5000 companies – total revenue by country. Shown here are the top 12 countries and dollar value in billions. You can see that the ranking of countries closely follows how the GDP stacks up.
The total revenue from the Global 5000 companies now exceeds $76 trillion … world GDP has been estimated at approx $100 trillion, so you can understand the scope of these firms and how much of the global economy they drive.
One interesting view of these 5000 is to look at their primary industry. We classify each of the firms by the industry where they derive the majority of their revenue. There are 22 industries in our classification scheme.
