Walmart has been #1 in the world for a long time. The largest company in the world for a decade or so. There was some thought that this would be the year (2024) that Amazon would catch them. Almost – it is getting close.
We went back to 2017 to compare the annual revenue of both companies culminating with Amazon reporting $637 billion to Walmart’s $680 billion.
The reporting of these two giants came in the same period as other retailers were closing up shop:
- Joann sewing and fabrics announced they are closing all their stores
- Party City is also shutting down the last of their retail outlets
All this on top of earlier announcements from the likes of Big Lots and JC Penney. Tough times for traditional retailers.
For those selling into the retail industry, keeping track of the closures and consolidation in your CRM system means a lot of work and the need to remove records and keep your data updated. Not an easy chore
