As June came to a close, we can look back and take stock of activity and updates to the Global 5000 during the second quarter and first half of 2016.
For the month of June, we added 32 new companies and removed (turned inactive) 12 companies for a net add of 20 companies. For the quarter, there were 59 companies added and 40 companies removed. To date, there are 4,844 active companies in the database. We expect to add a net new of at least 100 companies in the second half of the year.
As always, keeping up with market changes is an ongoing process and provides an interesting mix of companies, industries and events – – – take a look at a few of these below. As you plan your approach to markets and accounts, keeping your target market data up-to-date is key and takes some diligence.
Among the largest new firms added
- Veritiv – an $8.7 billion packaging company formed from a merger of Unisource Worldwide and a business unit of International Paper
- Chemours Company – a $5.7 billion spin-off of duPont
- Kion Group – a $5.6 billion German truck manufacturer
- Citizens Financial Group, the banking operation in Rhde Island that has been part of RBS
- RSM, a $4.4 billion private Tax & Accounting company in the UK
- Foxconn Technology of Taiwan that was spun out of Hon Hai and has bee in negotiation for Sharp
Some of the companies no longer part of the Global 5000 include:
- Safeway which has merged with Albertsons
- Optum RX (Catamarran) which become part of UnitedHealth
- Kraft Foods as they merged with Heinz
- TRW Automotive which was acquired by German auto parts maker ZF Friedrichshafen
- Imtech NV, the $5 billion Dutch construction firm that went bankrupt
