  • During 2011, The Global 5000 companeis were very active with a number of mergers, acquisitions, divesting assets, new IPO's and other corporate actions. In total we recorded 245 activities representing over 330 companies. Tallying up the key areas, there were 135 acquisitions, 7 companies filed ch 11 banruptcy while 5 others emerged from bankruptcy protection. Thirty companies divested of some business unties or product lines. Ten companies in The Global 5000 went private.   • In March, we completed updates on 728 companies among the Global 5000.  Most of these were updates to new revenue posted as part of their financial postings. Additionally, there was a lot of activity on the M&A and spin-off front. The list below are all those that were included as part of that action.   • One of the industry news items today was the announcement that China's AVIC (Aviation Industry of China) is in talks to buy a small US airplane market. This is interesting on many levels and truly shows how the world is changing -- lest anyone thought we are really not that global. AVIC is state owned and manufactures aircraft including fighter jets and helicopters. And being state owned has lots of money.   • A combination of companies filing revenue for the year end 2010 and a wave of mergers & acquisition activity has made this period a very busy time.  We update records in the database at least once a year when the new revenue is posted or when a merger/acquisition is completed. It is an on-going process.   • One of the things we do with The Global 5000 companies database, is to keep track of the acquisitions, divestitures, mergers, acquisitions and bankruptcies of the companies.  As we have seen, the past couple of years saw a fair number of Chapter 11 reporting.  We are now in a period of IPO filings and a wave of M&A activity.
