Tracking the ebb and flow of corporate activity among The Global 5000, we find not only mergers and activities (see our recent post on July M&A companies) but also companies who have announced they are splitting into 2 or more entities.

Keeping track of these is important for B2B sales and marketing teams. Starting with the contracts at a company and key buying points and influences, the split company now becomes two and sales management will have to determine who (sales exec) will be covering these 2 entities.  Will it be the same rep or assign a new rep? For planning purposes, the purchases of your products and services may not automatically renew or increase their spend with your company. Add to this, the marketing and lead generation challenges of researching who are the new key players — in 2 organizations and it becomes clear there are a lot of details to track down here.
